Environmental Scientist - HazMat Survey

Job Summary:
The Environmental Scientist – HazMat Survey at 3D Enviro is responsible for conducting field-based environmental surveys, including mercury, asbestos, and lead assessments, as well as clearance testing and post-abatement inspections. This role involves analyzing field data, maintaining accurate records, and preparing clear, technical reports for clients. The position requires strong organizational and communication skills to manage multiple projects, collaborate with team members, and respond to field needs or emergencies. Candidates must be comfortable working in active construction environments, using specialized scientific equipment, and performing physically demanding tasks. This is a hands-on, in-person role that supports both survey and remediation efforts while ensuring compliance with environmental and safety regulations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform Environmental Surveys: Candidate will be responsible for coordinating and conducting mercury, asbestos, and lead surveys, as well as mercury clearance testing and post-abatement inspections while in the field.
- Data Analysis: Candidates must maintain records and logs of work performed in the field and analyze survey findings to communicate results to clients.
- Report Writing: Prepare clear and concise reports using field survey logs and make any editing changes once they have been reviewed. Candidate must be adept at technical scientific writing and proficient with Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and other similar applications.
- Respond to and assist with any field emergencies (utility issues, water leaks/pipe breaks, etc.).
- Maintain scientific equipment (i.e., Ohio Lumex mercury vapor analyzer and XRF analyzer).
- Secondary Responsibilities: Assist Project Manager or Senior Environmental Scientist in any remediation responsibilities that follow survey work and provide support for their work.
Working Conditions and Physical Expectations:
- A minimum 40-hour work week. Some night and weekend work is possible depending on the job, but not regular.
- Ability to adapt to changing schedules and track multiple projects of varying scope.
- Comfortable in construction settings (interior and exterior).
- Ability to pass a physical and wear a respirator.
- Exposure to varying temperatures (30ºF – 100ºF) during field work, both inside and outside based on projects.
- Attire: Pants, company shirts (provided), steel or composite toe boots, protective glasses, gloves, and hard hat when applicable.
- Ability to be on your feet for extended periods (10-hour days).
- Ability to lift 50 pounds, stoop, bend, and pull objects.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in construction management, engineering, environmental sciences or a related field.
- OSHA 40-Hour (preferred, but not required).
- OSHA 10-Hour Construction (preferred, but not required).
- Strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously.
- Knowledge of asbestos abatement, demolition, and construction methodologies, safety regulations, and environmental compliance requirements.
- Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams and build rapport with clients, potential clients and stakeholders.
- Ability to read and understand project documents such as RFPs, contracts, estimates, schedules, architectural drawings, and technical specifications. Understanding of the government contracting process is a plus.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook) and Google Suite. Experience with project management software is a plus.
- Conversational Spanish is a plus.
